Self Harm Ireland is the first centre for the prevention of self harm in Donegal.
Our aims and objectives are:
To facilitate communications between volunteers, survivors and researchers in all matters relating to self harm and self harming behaviour.
To promote awareness of the problem of self harming and self harming behaviour in the general public by holding awareness days and workshops and by communication of relevant material through the media.
To ensure that the public is better informed about self harm prevention.
To support those who self harm and to encourage a different way of communication.
To support and encourage relevant research.
To promote self harm awareness in schools to help tackle teen issues.
To encourage and support family members affected by self harm.
To set up a buddy system where by volunteers can be a confidential support system for people who are feeling depressed, or who have self harmed by way of text or email. Consider what was helpful to you as an adolescent when Experiencing emotional distress
If your child does not want to talk, do not pressure Him/her. Self-injury is a very emotional subject and the behaviour itself is often an indication that your child has difficulty verbalizing his/her emotions.
